The Bradley Natural Child Birth Method and Chiropractic Share Similar Principles

For childbirth and healthcare there are many avenues of thinking. The most common view, is to force the desired result with medication and surgery. Natural birth and healing requires confidence and patience to allow the body to function naturally. Dr. Fred Schofield, at Atlas Chiropractic in Northwest Phoenix, has used, many times, the analogy of healthy fruit ripening. Fruit requires healthy soil, roots, water, sunshine, and time. When the fruit is ripe it will fall from the tree. The Natural Healer will work on the roots (nerve roots) and the soil (environment, nutrition and attitude) thus allowing the body to maximize health itself.

Bradley Method of Natural Childbirth and Innate

The Bradley Method was developed by Dr. Bradley in the 1940’s. Dr. Bradley was brought up on a farm, and witnessed the innate instincts of animals as they naturally went through the birth process. As a physician, he was disturbed by the growing trend to medicate the mother and cut or force out the baby. (1)   He then developed a system to create strong mothers with nutrition, exercise, and education, by promoting natural childbirth. But, Dr. Bradley thought the most important aspect is the ability for the mother to listen to her inner self and follow her instincts, thus trusting that the body has an innate or internal intelligence to do the right thing.  (2)

The Chiropractic and Bradley Link

Chiropractic is also rooted in the fact that the body has an innate or internal guidance system known as innate. The goal of the Chiropractor is not to add to this system, but is to make sure there is no interference in the system. This means, both the Bradley Method and Chiropractic know that the body was designed to be perfect. The job of the Bradley Instructor or Chiropractor, is to make sure there is not any interference and to allow the body to do the job it was meant to do.
